Overview
The Ellison Myers ‘Tarzan’ Brown sculpture project will honor the remarkable legacy of a two-time Boston Marathon champion and a hero of the Narragansett Tribe. Known for his resilience, talent, and the pivotal role he played in naming Heartbreak Hill, Tarzan Brown’s victories in 1936 and 1939 symbolize perseverance and excellence. This sculpture will serve as a permanent tribute to his contributions to marathon running, Indigenous heritage, and the Narragansett community.
Brown’s legacy extends beyond his athletic achievements to his role as a cultural figure who embodied resilience and strength. His life and career continue to inspire both the Indigenous community and the broader world, reminding us of the power of perseverance and the enduring spirit of the human will.
This initiative, led by the Brown Family with the support of the 26.2 Foundation, aims to inspire future generations by commemorating Tarzan Brown’s extraordinary story.
Please note, this project is in the process of being approved. The proposed location for the sculpture is Newton, Massachusetts.

Project Details
We are seeking an artist to create a life-sized bronze sculpture of Ellison “Tarzan” Brown, to be installed in 2026.
